|Grant Criteria : Guidelines
Grants are directed primarily to Massachusetts, in areas where L. Knife & Son, Inc. and related family businesses have operated since 1898, primarily Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes, and Essex counties, Massachusetts.
We also do minimal funding in Brooklyn, New York, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, additional areas where the company does business.
Grant requests are accepted on a rolling basis, and acted upon at the trustee meeting date following submission of the request.
Prospective grantees must first contact the Director by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by mail at PO Box K, Kingston, MA 02364 to discuss the proposed request. The grantee should be prepared to discuss the scope, content and amount of the proposed request. The Director will then determine whether the request fits the Foundation guidelines, whether a formal letter of inquiry or application request should be submitted, and provide information about the preferred format for the submission.
The trustees meet 3-4 times per year when they vote to advance letters of inquiry to proposals (which are then considered at subsequent meetings) and whether to fund pending proposals.
The Foundation may require periodic reports from grantees.
In evaluating proposals, the trustees will review them for consistency with the Foundation's mission, guidelines and strategies. The Foundation aims to establish a sense of continuity and long-term commitment to a few projects in selected project areas.
